Why does darth vader wear the life support mask and armor/suit?

my friend told me that is was something that happens episode III. So what happend to darth vader or anakin skywalker that made him have to wear that mask in order to live also why is he like half robot? is it the same reason?Why does darth vader wear the life support mask and armor/suit?
While battling Obi-Wan Kenobi on the lava planet Mustafar, Anakin lost to Obi-Wan and incedently lost all of his limbs except for one arm and landed very close to a lava pit. In the movie, he layed near the bit and burned up. In my encyclopedia, he was actually cast into the pit but immediatly brought out by Obi Wan. Either way, he was a fraction of a human. The Emperor, fearing he would lose his precious aprentice, put Darth Vader into a health capsule, took him back to coruscant and immediatly began surgery. Most of his body was replace with robotics and the suit is neccessary to keep the mechanics functioning. Where as he no longer has working lungs, the respiratory now breaths for him.Why does darth vader wear the life support mask and armor/suit?
In Episode III:Revenge of the Sith, Anakin turns to the dark side. Senator Paplatine convinces Anakin, during a battle with Mace Windu, to turn to the dark side to save Padme. Ani had a dream that she would die, just as he did in Episode II:Attack of the Clones with his mother. So, he and the Senator get together and overthrow the Republic, forming the 1st Galactic Empire. In order to do this, all Jedi must be killed. So Padme gets concerned about Anakin, because Obi-Wan told her what was happening, but she didn't believe him. When she arrives on the planet(I forget which one), with Obi-Wan on the ship(she didn't know he was there), she discovers the truth. Then, Obi-Wan emerges, and Anakin precedes to fight him, after almost killing Padme for not wanting to be with him anymore. Anakin and Obi-wan fight fiercely, until Obi-Wan wins, and cuts off Anakin's arm. He falls to the ground, which is rising up in lava, and gets burned to a crisp. The Senator, now called Darth Sidiuos, finds Anakin and saves him.





*He is named Darth Vader after the Senator and Anakin kill Mace Windu and Anakin offically turns to the Dark Side.
the dark side just messed him up. he never should have turned. in episode 3 he was severly burned and that was probably it and some of his limbs were machinery. the new movies weren't that good but the old ones are my favorite movies of all time they're awesome!

in Episode III he gets half his body burned by hot and deadly lava. that mustve hurt. but yeah, so they operate him and thats why he uses life support.

when Anakin fails to jump over Obi-wan in their fight, Obi-wan cuts off his legs, and sends Anakin slidoing down and into the firey path of lava.





the lava catches Anakin on fire and no one is willing to stop it.





The damage done is so severe that neither his lungs or his skin can live normally.





The armor was two fold: Protection, and to hide the skin bellow.





the helmet-breathing system was the only way he could live.





Remember in Jedi when he said if the helmet was removed he would die?

In their last fight, Obi-Wan ends up cutting off his legs and good arm, and then he catches fire and burns and is near death before the Emporer finds him, takes him to the hospital where they make the Vader suit for him.
Ok, so he got like..two of his arms chopped off by Obe Wan. And then his legs got caught in lava and his legs got burnt off. So that's basically why he's 1/2 robot. You'd have to see the movie, but yeah he's basically just all nubs. But it's good, definitely see the movie. Watch all [:

Well, Anakin and Obi-Wan

had this really big climatic fight in StarWars episode Three.


Yep.


It took nearly thirty minutes.


But it was a really great fight.


Like Sasuke and Naruto in that one episode...er...nevermind.





Well, they're fighting on this big lava-y planet.


And Obi-Wan's a really great Jedi.


So he cuts off Anakin's other arm


[Anakin had his other arm chopped off by Count Duku in episode two]


and legs.


And Anakin falls near the lava and gets all burnt all over his body.


I was sad.


But at least it wasn't Obi-Wan.
