What is the best mask to wear to protect yourself from bird flu?

Bird flu is not normally transmitted to people. Unless you are having prolonged direct contact with contaminated birds (eg. poultry catcher in an affected country - of which Canada and the U.S. are not at this point), you are okay. If you do have that kind of contact, and are working in a country where avian (bird) flu outbreaks have been declared, a surgical or procedure mask is necessary.

If and when the bird flu transforms into a human influenza virus that becomes able to move from one human to another (eg. pandemic influenza affecting the whole world), again a surgical or procedure mask is good. N95 is not necessary because the influenza virus is a droplet spread bug and not an airborne bug. This is according to the CDC, WHO and the Canadian infectious diseases experts. What is the best mask to wear to protect yourself from bird flu?
