Could I, instead of buying a hair mask, just lather my head with conditioner?

Like, I could just use some root-strengthening conditioner, and keep it in my head for a few hours? Would that be the equivalent of a hair mask? Because I don't want to go out and buy a hair mask, when there is a cheaper alternative method. I know that's really cheap of me, but we're in a recession.Could I, instead of buying a hair mask, just lather my head with conditioner?
I don't know about regular conditioner, but they do have conditioner for dry hair and if you would rather have moist hair just put in a tiny bit more than is suggested, but make sure you shower often so it doesn't get greasy.

dont do that. i was in the showeras and put in conditioner heard my phone ring so i answered it and when i washed out the conditioner in the morning my hair was seriously gressey.

Hair masks are just concentrated conditioners anyway x
you could do that. You can also put mayonnaise in your hair too. I know it sounds disgusting but it works
